The Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge form one of the most instantly recognizable skylines on the planet — and seeing them in person, especially from a ferry crossing the harbor, is genuinely breathtaking.
A Sydney countdown is a long one for most international visitors (flights from the US take 14–22 hours, from Europe 20–24 hours), which makes the countdown all the more meaningful. Sydney sits at the southeastern corner of Australia, with the Blue Mountains to the west and a stunning coastline that stretches in both directions.

Beyond the harbour: Bondi Beach is a 20-minute bus ride from the city centre — the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk is one of the world's great urban coastal walks. The Northern Beaches (Manly, Dee Why, Curl Curl) offer a more laid-back surf culture. The Rocks precinct and Darling Harbour are perfect for evenings out.
